Creative Engineering
Project Description- For the creative engineering project we where tasked with solving a problem in the world. Our group decided to find a way to keep shoelaces tied because we all have had problems with shoelaces coming untied. We had to research our problem before we started to work on making a final product. While researching our problem we focused on three things, shoelace material, what causes shoelaces to come untied, and the lethality of untied shoelaces. By researching we found out that the material and shape of the shoelace greatly affect how often they come untied. For example a round shoelace will come untied more often than a flat shoelace. A shoelace made from synthetic materials will also come untied more often than a shoelace made from natural materials. Our research also shows that shoelaces come untied due to the wiggling of the lace as you walk. Finally we did some research about the lethality of untied shoelaces. We found that there were over 2400 injuries related to shoelaces coming untied. To solve this we tried to make a new type of shoelace but with our available materials this was not possible. So instead we came up with the knot kno, the knot knob pinches down on the knot keeping it form wiggling and therefore keeping it tied.
Concepts-Engineering design cycle
1.Identify the need- to start everything off we realized that we needed to find way to keep shoelaces tied.
2.Research the Problem- We then conducted research on y shoelaces come untied.
3.Develop possible solutions- we came up with two solutions, make a new shoelace or make a device to keep the shoelace from coming untied.
4.Select the most promising solution- we chose to make a device tat keeps he shoelace from coming untied.
5.Construct a prototype- we made a prototype of the device from a 3d printer.
6.Test and evaluate the prototype- we were unable to test our prototype.
7.Communicate the design- we were going to pitch the idea to major shoe companies.
8.Redesign- we did not redesign the device.
9.Repeat- we did not repeat the process.

Reflection-
Our group did well in some things and poor in others. Two peaks in our project were that our group communicated quite well. One of our group members was absent for a few days and we set up a group chat so we could all talk to her and she could also help us. ThIs communication really helped when we were trying to make a slide show, we could all get our ideas into the slide show and when we weren't even in class. Another peak is that we all agreed on the solution for untied shoes. This's gave us extra time to do other things while some Groups were still arguing about the solution. One pit is that while presenting our slide show we fumbled with some of the things on it, this could have been avoided if we rehearsed the presentation few more times. Another pit was that we did have some time where we were off task and we could have done more work that day. Overall this project went very well and I waS satisfied with our end product.
