At the Stafford lake the streams leading into the lake are very steep and that allows more dirt and waste to flow into the lake. Another problem is that there are plants that are not suitable for the native wildlife to live in. The Marin County Parks Project is working to solve these problems by making the stream curve and wind more so that the water does not flow through as fast. They are also getting rid of the weeds around the streams and replacing them with native plants that support the wildlife. Yesterday we helped by laying down mulch around the stream to keep out the weeds. This mulch will also decompose and provide good soil for the native plants that are already planted there. This work was part of the integrated pest management because it gets rid of the invasive weeds and replaces them with beneficial native plants. I thought that in this field trip we were actually making a difference in helping Stafford lake. This is something that we could actually see and it has an impact on us, because we use Stafford lake to get a lot of our water.
